What is Guided Meditation?

Guided imagery and visualisation can be used to achieve meditation. It is known as mental practice to sports psychologists. It is a technique used by numerous sports individuals in their quest for Gold. The neural channel which has been developed deep within the mind is what helps them to succeed.

Look at what Michael Phelps achieved in the Beijing Olympics – 8 gold medals in swimming for USA! A wonderful example of Olympic achievement. Of course there was a training ‘secret’ that he used in addition to the regular training, groundwork and eating regime known well to all professional athletes. Yes, the key was putting to work the techniques espoused in in the book ‘The Secret’ and in Sandy MacGregor’s book ‘Piece of Mind’ using Guided Meditation.

Phelps wrote in his autobiography: ‘There are times in my sleep when I literally dream my race from start to finish’. I visualise to the point that I know exactly what I want to do: dive, glide, stroke, flip, reach the wall, hit the split time to the hundredth, then swim back again for as many times as I need to finish the race.

Athletes like Phelps are trained how to use guided imagery to attain their best results whereas CALM has prepared meditations which help you achieve what you dream of in life.

Using guided meditation is a peaceful way to start on the pathway to practising meditation. The deeper meditative state of Theta brainwaves, when there is absolute physical relaxation while maintaining mental alertness, can be more easily attained by using guided meditation.

Sandy MacGregor, founder of CALM Meditation, has taught thousands of people how to meditate properly through his guided meditation books, CDs and DVDs. Guided meditation has far-reaching benefits to health, tranquillity, relationships with others, manifesting goals, losing weight and many other areas of life that people often struggle with.

Sandy has been teaching his techniques since 1989.He has personally used the practice of guided meditation found in his books and CDs to drop 49 pounds (22 kgs) of excess weight. Guided meditation helped his son save his own leg from amputation and handle asthma. Sandy was able to transform feelings of hatred, anger and revenge into acceptance, love and forgiveness when he was dealing with the tragecy of his three children’s murder, by using these techniques.

CALM utilizes the most advanced, scientific and up-to-date techniques available in easy-to-follow books, CDs, DVDs and direct downloads to your computer.

Individual meditations are available on many different topics which address various life matters and challenges such as with our health or relationships. The ability to fine tune each guided meditation to your individual requirements is what makes this such a useful and practical process.

Some people do like to create their own personalised meditation sessions by recording their own voices and choice of background music. Music with a tempo of 60 beats a minutes has been scientifically shown to be most beneficial for the purpose of guided meditation. When we are more stress-free our heartbeat lowers and when listening to music which is at 60 beats per minute the human heart tends to respond by matching this beat which accordingly is inclined to expand and strengthen our experience of meditation.

Deep meditation in the Theta brainwave state can be achieved using the CALM (Creative Accelerated Learning Methods) process of visualising each colour of the spectrum in turn, as taught by Sandy MacGregor. Red is the first colour of the spectrum to be visualised, then progressing through to orange, yellow, geen, light blue, dark blue, violet then eventually to clear colourless white light. To be scientific, every colour has its own vibration and will vibrate at its own individual wavelength within the body when being visualised. There is a decline of wavelength in each colour and with the progression of visualising each colour the vibrations of each colour within the body becomes more refined. The body feels the vibration and it is this progression of fineness coming into the body (the colours) that takes you to the meditation state.

Practice of about twenty minutes per time done regularly is the optimum approach for guided meditation. Regularity is important to establish the habit. Usually within a brief time span nearly everyone will observe and appreciate the increased usefulness and the quality of their session spent meditating.

Guided meditation utilises visualisation of images by using the senses – see, feel, smell, taste, hear and most important of all imagination and self talk. Everybody can visualize to create and suggest positive images! Using the mind in this way can be very powerful and yet simple to learn. As well as having many uses and functions, guided meditation is a cost-free method of reaching a peaceful state and of managing life’s concerns and worries.
